Exmouth Western Australia
Exmouth is located at the northern end of the famous Ningaloo Reef on the tip of the North West Cape of Western Australia, 1,270 kilometers north of Perth. A unique location, Exmouth is surrounded by a world-class marine park on one side, and rugged ranges on the other, this ideal setting makes Exmouth such a great place to visit.
Central to exploring the Ningaloo Reef Marine Park and The Cape Range National Park, Exmouth boasts the "Range to Reef" experience. The Cape Range National Park which has some spectacular gorges is an area of 50,580 hectares and is to the west of Exmouth with the Shot Hole and Charles Knife canyons 23 kilometers to the south.
A drive from Exmouth around the top of the Cape Range past the Vlaming Head Lighthouse and south to spectacular Yardie Gorge is approximately 90 kilometres. In between are the great swimming and snorkeling locations such as Turquiose Bay and Lakeside, the Milyering Visitor Centre, the Jurabi Turtle Centre and nearby turtle nesting beaches. If you are so inclined, get the all over sun tan at the "optional clothing" beach of Mauritius.
The Ningaloo Marine Park abuts the Cape Range National Park. At the closest point the reef is within 100 metres of the shore. The beaches on the west coast have the most pristine blue, aqua to turquoise waters and pure white sandy beach. Turquoise Bay is the most relaxing beach to just sit back, relax and soak up the beautiful surroundings and sunshine.
Exmouth's tropical climate is a great feature of the area. In Summer the average maximum temperature is 37°C with an average minimum temperature of 20°C. In Winter the average maximum temperature is 24°C with an average minimum temperature of 11°C. Surface water temperatures range from 26-31°C in Summer (December - March) and 19-24°C in Winter.
Exmouth is renown as a mecca for fishing. Within 2 kilometers of the shore, big game fish provide a challenge to those seeking the adventure, or quality eating fish that you can only dream about. Fishing Charters and Tours almost ensure a god catch.
Exmouth has a wide and diverse range of tour operators including Swim with the Whale Sharks, Whale Watching, Scuba and Snorkelling the Ningaloo Reef and Coral Viewing. Extensive range of accommodation options, both at Exmouth and Coral Bay are available with vehicle and boat hire.
