Here you will find the historic Flint Cliff Telegraph Station and Post Office which is now a museum displaying a living Stromatolite and where an interpretive display can be seen showing the evolution of Stromatolites. Conducted tours of the Stromatolites and nearby Shell Block Quarry from which most of the surrounding station homesteads are built, are available from this location.

Originally opened in 1884 the old living quarters has been converted to a tearoom providing Devonshire teas, light meals and refreshments. Caravan park and camping facilities are also available in this area.

An example of a major stage in the earth's evolutionary history. They were the first life forms to appear on earth three point five billion years ago and then over the next one billion years, they dominated the earth's primordial seas. These ancient cyanobacteria would often grow in colonies, trapping sediments with mucous to form great mats, or reefs of rock-like structures called stromatolites. Hamelin Pool's salinity levels are so high that plants and grazing animals cannot survive. As a result, stromatolites now flourish in area.

The Stromatolites are a short walk from the Flint Cliff Telegraph Station where they are viewed from a broadwalk.

The below map shows the Hamelin Pool Telegraph Station.
