Little Lagoon, Town Bluff and Eagle Bluff

Little Lagoon

Located just off the Monkey Mia Road only 5 kilometres from Denham is Little Lagoon. An excellent location for barbecues, picnics, fishing or relaxation.  The lagoon is a flooded "birrida" which is the Aboriginal name for salt claypans, which is a saline lake formed when the sea levels were much higher than present day. Gypsum was deposited on the floors of theses birridas. Little Lagoon has tidal channel connecting the lagoon to the sea. 

A walk trail of approximately 2 hours duration takes you from Denham to Little Lagoon. The areas flora and fauna can been easily seen from this walk trail offering a large rvariety of plant species and bird life. On the sandy beach between Lagoon Point and the mouth of the Little Lagoon is a large array of shells and it is home to a variety of sea animals. . Little Lagoon has picnic shelters and a gas barbecue however the area is strictly no camping. 

Warning - Stonefish are found in the shallow water of the Lagoon

Town Bluff

Just a short walk south of town it is an ideal spot for photographing the town or the fabulous sunsets. On the way you may be able to distinguish two rows of rocks which are believed to be an Aboriginal fish trap.

Eagle Bluff

Located 20 kilometres south of Denham where The Eagle Bluff provides magnificent views of the bay. A large population of dugongs live in the vicinity of the bluff. Best viewing times to see the dugongs is in summer when they come close to the shore to feed on the sea grass in the area. Shark Bay has the world's largest population of Dugongs. Dolphins and Manta Rays can also be seen in the bay below from the lookout viewing platform. Additionally Osprey and Sea Eagles are often seen in the area. Eagle Bluff is also a popular snorkelling and fishing site.
